Outside at the Morton Arboretum a mom is hugging her two young kids

Hi,

I’m Kayla!

I’m a wedding and family photographer based in the Chicago suburbs

I've always loved art and got into photography in high school and shot my first wedding as a senior. I haven't looked back since!

I married my best friend, Brett, over 10 years ago and have two amazing and silly kiddos!

I love to travel, bake, take walks, listen to podcasts, watch TV shows (especially rated over 8 on imdb), play get to know you games, and just hang out with friends and families. Brett and I each have 5 siblings and combined we have a total of 26 nieces and nephews, so I’m well prepared for all the big family and kids chaos! Bring it on!

My goal is to capture the genuine moments and emotions of your day. We don’t hide if there’s rain, tears, wind in your veil, your hair falls in your face, a dirty train, a muddy shoe, etc. those elements make it unique and those are the ones that will help you actually remember your day. Let us embrace those moments with you and help you see the beauty in the unexpected, silly, and sweet human moments that hopefully we can capture.

Random Facts

It’s always fun to get to know peoples’ interests, and also some facts about how I approach photography these days…

The Office and Gilmore Girls are always on my recently watched. Ask me any Gilmore Girl trivia question, I dare you!

I've been married for over 12 years and met Brett when we were just 15 and 16! I truly believe marriage is the most amazing gift.

I have 5 siblings who are my absolute best friends, I talk to at least one of them almost daily and could not imagine life without them.

One of my younger brothers is also my second shooter! He's the most fun companion on wedding days. He reminds me to drink water, picks up everything I drop, helps me not fall into a lake, plays "I spy" with me, and is an amazing photographer (and artist).

I listen to podcasts almost everyday - give me your recommendations!

My favorite part of my job is to experience and capture how couples and families naturally interact. I find the sneaky glances (whether annoyed or lovey dovey), surprise tickle attacks, hand on the back as you walk, quick peck on the cheek all so insanely beautiful. I truly believe my gift is creating a space where I can direct and prompt while still allowing space for play and natural interactions. It’s taken years of practice and experience to be able to get to that place, but I strive to bring that to every wedding and session I have! I believe those natural interactions captured in a photo are the ones that won’t age and can travel you back to that feeling like nothing else quite can.
