A Fall Family Session at Blackwell Forest Preserve
There’s something about fall at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Wheaton that just invites you to slow down a little. The light softens, the colors deepen, and everything feels a bit more present—and that’s exactly what this session felt like from start to finish.
This sweet family of four (with one more on the way) showed up ready to just be together, and that’s always the goal. Instead of focusing on perfect poses, we leaned into simple prompts and let the kids take the lead. They ran through the trees, held hands, stopped to snuggle in close, and then ran off again. Nothing forced—just space for them to move, explore, and come back in for connection.
Those in-between moments are always where the magic is. The way the kids naturally reached for their parents, the quiet laughs, the quick hugs that turned into longer ones. It all unfolded in such an easy, honest way.
We spent a lot of time slowing things down, too—pulling everyone in close, letting the movement settle, and capturing those softer moments. The light that evening was unreal—warm and golden, wrapping around them in the most gentle way. It made every close-up feel even more intimate.
This season for their family felt especially meaningful. With mom pregnant, there was this quiet anticipation woven into everything.
Blackwell Forest Preserve is one of my favorite locations for fall family photos in Wheaton for exactly this reason. There’s room for kids to be kids, space to move freely, and the kind of light that makes everything feel a little more like a memory as it’s happening.
Sessions like this are never about getting everyone to look perfectly at the camera for the entire time. They’re about being present with your people, letting things unfold as they will, and capturing what your family actually feels like in this season—messy, playful, tender, and real.
If you’re drawn to photos that feel natural and connected, and you’re planning fall family photos in Wheaton or the surrounding Chicago suburbs, this is exactly the kind of session we’ll create together.
