Jenny & Jon’s Wedding
An end of summer wedding at the beautiful Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville, IL. Jenny and Jon said private vows to each other in a secluded path, embraced the sunset during cocktail hour, and shared an ice cream sundae instead of cake!
A summer wedding at Independence Grove Forest Preserve carries a kind of magic that feels hand-stitched into the landscape. Warm breezes. Tall grasses. Forest paths. Golden light that quietly steals the show. This wedding brought all of that and more, wrapped in a story that began the modern way — two people who simply swiped right, not knowing they were saying yes to a lifetime.
Their day was intimate, joyful, and full of small, meaningful choices that made it unmistakably theirs.
Private Vows on a Secluded Path
Before the ceremony, the couple slipped away to a quiet trail tucked behind the trees at Independence Grove. Surrounded by the hush of nature, they shared private vows — the kind of promises spoken softly, just for the two of them. No audience. No pressure. Just sunlight, leaves, and two people building their own little world before the big celebration.
Moments like these are why Independence Grove is one of the most beautiful wedding locations in the Chicago suburbs. The forest preserve is full of hidden paths and pockets of nature that feel like they were designed for couples who want something private and heartfelt.
Sunset Photos During Outdoor Cocktail Hour
As guests mingled lakeside for cocktail hour, the couple embraced the warm summer light and headed out for sunset portraits. Independence Grove is famous for its painterly skies in July, and this evening delivered — glowing orange edges drifting across the water, soft shadows between the trees, and that unmistakable midsummer haze that turns everything romantic.
These two leaned into it fully: laughing, twirling, soaking in the moment while their guests enjoyed the outdoor space. It felt effortless and honest, the way great wedding portraits should.
An Ice Cream Sundae Instead of Cake
Instead of cutting a traditional wedding cake, they shared an ice cream sundae — a fun choice that matched their playful personalities and was nostalgic to them specifically as they first date included ice cream (and their engagement session with me did to!) They had an ice cream sundae bar for the rest of the guests to enjoy! Weddings at Independence Grove tend to feel personal and relaxed, and this was the perfect example of a couple doing things their way.
Independence Grove is a venue I’ve been at many times and we still find new spots, new pockets of light, and Relish Events at Independence Grove does a great job customizing each wedding to feel unique to the couple. It also adds major efficiency to the scheduling of your day when you can have the ceremony, reception, and photos all at the same spot!
